Countdown Calculator

Pick a target date and time and watch the countdown update live.

How does the live countdown work?

The countdown takes the target date and time you pick and recalculates the remaining days, hours, minutes and seconds once per second, right in your browser — there’s no server round-trip, so it keeps ticking smoothly as long as the page stays open.

Frequently asked questions

What time zone does the countdown use?

The target date/time you enter is interpreted in your browser's local time zone, and the countdown compares it against your device's current local time. If you share a countdown link with someone in a different time zone, they should enter the target time in their own local equivalent for it to match.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

All four values (days, hours, minutes, seconds) show 0 and the status message changes to indicate the target moment has passed. The countdown doesn't automatically reset or count back up — you'd need to pick a new target date to start a fresh countdown.

Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?

No — the countdown only runs while the page is open in your browser. It recalculates from scratch based on your device's clock each time you reopen the page, so closing and reopening won't lose accuracy, it just stops updating live while closed.

Can I use this for a recurring event, like a birthday every year?

Not automatically — this calculator counts down to one specific date and time you set. For a recurring annual countdown (like "days until my birthday"), the Age Calculator's next-birthday feature handles the yearly rollover automatically instead.
