Date Difference Calculator

Find the exact time between two dates.

How is time between two dates calculated?

The straightforward part is total days — the plain difference between two calendar dates. The years/months/days breakdown is trickier, since calendar months don’t all have the same length, so this calculator works through the calendar carefully rather than dividing days by an average month length.

Frequently asked questions

Is the difference inclusive or exclusive of the end date?

This calculator counts exclusively — the number of full days elapsed between the start and end date, not counting the end date itself as an extra day. Jan 1 to Jan 2 returns 1 day, not 2.

Why are total days and total weeks not evenly related?

Total weeks is just total days divided by 7, shown to one decimal place, so it won't be a round number unless the day count happens to be an exact multiple of 7. It's a convenience conversion, not a separate calculation.

Does this handle time zones or daylight saving time?

The calculation works on calendar dates rather than exact timestamps, so it isn't affected by daylight saving transitions the way an hour-based countdown could be. Both dates are treated as midnight in your browser's local time zone.

Can I calculate a date range that spans a leap year?

Yes — the calculator works through actual calendar dates rather than assuming a fixed 365-day year, so leap days (February 29) are automatically included in the day count when a range crosses one.
