Find the sale price and how much you save.

How is a sale price calculated?

A discount percentage applies to the original price, not to some other reference point: savings equal price times discount percentage, and the final price is what’s left after subtracting those savings from the original.

Frequently asked questions

How do multiple discounts stack?

Successive discounts multiply, they don't add. A 20% discount followed by an additional 10% off is not 30% off — it's 1 - (0.8 × 0.9) = 28% off the original price, since the second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original.

How do I work backward from sale price to find the discount?

Discount percentage = (original price − sale price) / original price × 100. If you know the sale price and the discount percentage but not the original, divide sale price by (1 − discount/100) to recover the original price.

Does sales tax apply before or after the discount?

In most jurisdictions, sales tax is calculated on the discounted price, not the original price — the discount is applied first, then tax on what remains. This calculator shows the pre-tax final price; add your local tax rate to that result for the actual amount charged.

What does "50% off" vs "buy one get one 50% off" actually save?

"50% off" applies to every item's price. "Buy one get one 50% off" only discounts the second item by half, meaning the effective discount across both items combined is 25%, not 50% — a common point of confusion in retail promotions.
